The Palisade kicks off its new generation in New York
Hyundai has revealed its 2026 Palisade at the New York International Auto Show, which features the model’s first-ever hybrid powertrain. The 2026 Palisade marks the start of a new generation for the three-row SUV that’s coming off its best-ever sales year in 2024, up 23% year-over-year. Hyundai is releasing a standard gas 2026 Palisade powertrain alongside the new hybrid powertrain, which features a 2.5-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine producing an estimated 619 miles of range, 329 horsepower, and 339 lb-ft of torque when combined with two electric motors and a six-speed automatic transmission.
The gas-powered 3.5-liter V6, coupled with an 8-speed automatic transmission, offers up to an estimated 287 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. With the new 3.5-liter V6 Palisade, drivers can choose between front-wheel drive (FWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) options, whereas the hybrid version features standard AWD. Maximum towing capacities reach 5,000 lbs for the naturally aspirated V6 and 4,000 lbs for its hybrid counterpart.

A bigger SUV with hot new looks
The 2026 Palisade’s overall proportions are larger, except for the shorter front overhang that was reduced by 1.6 inches. This three-row SUV’s overall length has grown 2.5 inches, and the wheelbase has increased 2.7 inches. The panoramic side glass is also bigger. Hyundai reports that its 2026 Palisade achieved one of its segment’s lowest drag coefficients of 0.31—the same as last year’s figure, but still an accomplishment given the all-new version’s larger and boxier design. This Hyundai SUV’s front end design is noticeably different from its predecessor, with its vertical LED daytime running lights and the lower fascia’s active airflow shutters. Inside, the dual 12.3” displays are now curved, and for the first time in any Hyundai, the 2026 Palisade has a built-in, two-camera dash cam that can continuously record during driving and automatically record nearby movement while parked.
An upgraded and more modern interior
Eight-passenger seating is standard, and the available captain’s chairs have one-touch tilt-and-slide functionality to access the third row with less hassle. The redesigned third row comes with available heating, power-folding, sliding, and power-reclining mechanisms. Second-row seats offer optional heating and ventilation, and interior seating is available in cloth, leatherette, leather, and Nappa leather. New for the 2026 model are Mud, Sand, and Snow driving settings. Alloy wheels are available in sizes up to 21 inches, and drivers get more standard safety features than last year’s version. Hyundai will build its 2026 Palisade in Ulsan, South Korea. Gas-powered models are scheduled to hit dealers in early summer, with hybrid models going on sale in early fall.
“The introduction of a hybrid variant, alongside our robust internal combustion engine and the adventure-ready XRT model, ensures that every driver finds their perfect fit. This strategic approach positions Hyundai to excel in any market environment, driving our continued growth in the SUV segment.” Olabisi Boyle, SVP of product planning and mobility strategy at Hyundai, said in a release.

Final thoughts
The 2026 Hyundai Palisade looks promising in more ways than one. A new hybrid powertrain, larger dimensions, refreshed front exterior lighting, and expanded driver-assist features are some of the reasons why it’s likely that this model will build on its predecessor’s success. While the three-row SUV segment is getting increasingly competitive, Hyundai has made it clear they’re not backing down. We’ll share more on the 2026 Palisade’s XRT PRO variant soon, which should help the model break free of its urban/suburban reputation with more off-road capability.
