Are Toyota’s Changes to the Tundra Enough?
Toyota may have the lead in the mid-size pickup segment, but it has always struggled to match America’s Big 3 in the full-size segment. For this reason, the Japanese automaker needs to keep driving interest in the Tundra any way it can, and it has done so by unveiling a few updates for the 2026 model. There’s no epic V8 comeback, though, as has been the case for the latest Ram 1500, but the Tundra gets a new lift kit, a larger gas tank, and a few interior improvements for select trims. These changes go a bit further than the ones made to the 2026 Sequoia SUV.

One of the only visual updates from the outside is a new color for the TRD Pro. It’s called Wave Maker, and it’s a vibrant blue shade. More useful than this is a TRD 3” Lift Kit and Tow Tech Package, which is available with the TRD Rally Package. The extra clearance will make the Tundra an even better off-roader than it already is.
Elsewhere, all Tundra models now get a standard 32.2-gallon gas tank, a tow hitch, and a 7/4 pin connector. Previously, a 22.5-gallon gas tank was standard, so on the base SR with rear-wheel drive and the non-hybrid engine, the range increases from 450 to 644 miles.
For Platinum and 1794 TRD Off-Road Package models, power running boards will now be available, while the SX Package adds new 20-inch wheels.
Toyota
As before, the Tundra gets a twin-turbo V6 as standard, which makes 389 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque. A hybrid version of this V6 makes 437 hp and 583 lb-ft combined, so is the easy choice if it’s in your budget. All models have a ten-speed automatic, with RWD standard and 4WD optional. Considering the success of Ram’s returning Hemi V8, it would have been nice to see Toyota offering such an option for buyers who are wary of the capable but more complex V6.
The Tundra still has a maximum towing capacity of 12,000 pounds.
Upgraded Upholstery And Seats

On the top Capstone grade, there are new leather seats with a Shale Premium Textured finish. The Limited now gets genuine leather upholstery in place of Softex imitation leather, with either black or grey options.
For the capable TRD Pro, optional ISO Dynamic seats are now available. These are similar to the seats in the Tacoma TRD Pro. Not only do they improve comfort levels when off-roading, but the seats look pretty cool, too.
On Double Cab models, rear passengers benefit from new air vents on the rear center console. For trims with single-zone climate control, a smartflow management system has been installed.
Toyota has left its infotainment system untouched, so the Tundra gets either an eight- or 14-inch touchscreen, depending on the trim.
Overall, the updates add a bit more practicality and comfort to the Tundra. It’s still not a class-leader, but Toyota’s full-size pickup is easily worth a test drive.
Pricing and an on-sale date are expected to be announced any day now.
