BMW Launches Explosive BMW M4 CS Edition VR46

An even more impressive take on a BMW M car

A BMW M car is a sexy beast on its own; that’s hard to argue. Well, BMW one-upped itself back in February by dropping the 2025 BMW M4 CS Edition VR46, a limited edition BMW M car celebrating the 46th birthday of nine-time motorcycle racing champion and current BMW Motorsport works driver Valentino Rossi.

The man, the myth, the legend

Rossi won his first world title in the 125cc motorcycle class in 1997 and earned the nickname of “The Doctor” or “Il Dottore”. By the time he retired from motorcycle racing in 2021, he had attained nine world championships and 115 Grand Prix victories. Rossi immediately turned to automobile racing, competing for BMW M Team WRT behind the wheel of a BMW M4 GT3 at GT World Challenge Europe, FIA World Endurance Championship (FIA WEC), and the 24 Hours of Le Mans (FRA).

A BMW worthy of its name

BMW M4 CS Edition VR46 aims to channel Rossi’s impressive racing career into a car worthy of his name. The VR46 immediately stands out from its brethren thanks to its two exclusive colors: Frozen Tanzanite Blue Metallic and Marina Bay Blue Metallic. Both sides of the car sport a metallic number 46, honoring both Rossi’s age and his racing number. The surround of the kidney grille and one of the V spokes on the alloy wheels are finished in Sao Paulo Yellow, with the latter accent cleverly pointing to the position of the tire valve stem. Marina Bay Blue cars also get the same accents as stripes over the door frames. The same yellow shade carries on to the brake calipers, while the carbon roof was hand-painted and bears the same VR46 logo and Valentino Rossi’s autograph.

The theme continues into the cabin, which has Black/Night Blue Merino leather M Carbon bucket seats with that Sao Paulo Yellow Alcantara shoulder area accents, as well as yellow stitching on the steering wheel and a yellow marker at 12 o’clock. The “VR46” logo is proudly displayed on the headrests, and the center console holds a numbered limited edition pad, ensuring nobody inside the car forgets just how special it is.

Much like Rossi’s cars, the VR46 does not understand slow

Under the hood of the BMW M4 CS Edition VR46 is a 3.0-liter, six-cylinder inline engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology that can draw a maximum boost pressure of 30.5 psi from the two mono-scroll turbochargers. BMW blessed the VR46 with special engine tuning, generating 543 hp to the M xDrive all-wheel drive system and the active M differential via an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission. This track beast can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 3.2 seconds with an electronically limited top speed of 188 mph.

The adaptive M suspension and steering components underneath, like the axle kinematics, bespoke wheel camber settings, dampers, auxiliary springs, and anti-roll bars, have also been specially tuned to transfer the VR46’s power to the road with minimal fuss.

Final thoughts

As expected, a car of this caliber won’t find a place in everyone’s stable. BMW only made 92 units worldwide, with 46 in Frozen Tanzanite Blue Metallic and
46 in Marina Bay Blue Metallic. The price, sit down for this one, starts at $155,000 plus destination. It’s not a package that will please everyone, but for those select few who are BMW enthusiasts and fans of Valentino Rossi, this is a match made in heaven. Now you’ll just have to find out how to get your hands on one.
