Cadillac is Killing Off Two More Models

Cadillac is changing things up

Cadillac is certainly going against the grain with its most recent announcements. After cutting the XT4 from the lineup earlier this year, the luxury marque has plans to remove two more family-sized models from the range. If all goes according to plan, Cadillac will discontinue the XT6 at the end of this year, and the XT5 will cease production at the tail end of 2026.

The Cadillac XT6 is the next to go

With more than 20,000 units sold in the United States last year, the Cadillac XT6 isn’t doing that badly. The current model has been on the road since the 2020 model year, though, so it’s getting a bit stale. Rather than give the three-row SUV a redesign, General Motors has decided to give it the axe instead. The luxury marque has launched more than six new vehicles in the past year alone, and with the lineup getting a little crowded, something had to go.

“Cadillac has introduced six new products in less than a year that represent the future of the brand,” the company said in a statement. “We will continue to make the necessary adjustments to the portfolio to maintain growth in critical luxury segments.”

The Cadillac XT6 follows the XT4 into the sunset at the end of 2025. The XT6 is currently built at Spring Hill Assembly in Tennessee, which also produces the Lyriq and Vistiq EVs. Cadillac has been focused on expanding its EV offerings ever since the company announced plans for an all-electric lineup back in 2021. At that time, Cadillac set 2030 as their target year, but the luxury brand recently clarified that EVs and gas-powered models will coexist, at least for a few years. Notably, Cadillac has already begun production of the Vistiq, which is essentially the XT6’s electrified successor.

The 2025 Cadillac XT6 is available starting from $49,195 and seats up to seven passengers. Its turbocharged four-cylinder engine produces 235 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque as standard, and an optional V6 engine delivers 310 horsepower and 271 lb-ft of torque. As far as cargo space goes, the XT6 offers up to 78.7 cu ft. with both rear rows folded down, which is a bit more than some competitors, including the BMW X5.

The Cadillac XT5 is safe through 2026

The Cadillac XT4 has already seen its final round of production, and with the XT6 leaving the market at the end of the year, the XT5 crossover is in an odd spot. The luxury crossover was the brand’s third best-selling model in 2024, with more than 26,000 units sold, and that seems to be the only reason the XT5 is sticking around for at least another year.

The 2025 Cadillac XT5 starts at $44,295 and shares both its standard turbo four-cylinder and V6 engine options with the XT6. The luxury model seats up to five passengers and offers up to 30 cu ft. of cargo space with the rear seats in their upright position. That’s a good deal more space than the Volvo XC60’s 22.4 cu ft. in the cargo area.

Much like the XT4 and XT6, Cadillac already produces an electrified successor to the XT5. The Cadillac Lyriq became the brand’s second best-selling vehicle of 2024, and for good reason. Single-motor RWD models produce 365 horsepower and 325 lb-ft of torque while offering a 326-mile range. Dual motor AWD versions generate 515 horsepower and 450 lb-ft of torque with 319 miles of range.

Final thoughts

With Cadillac moving toward electrification, gas-powered models were always going to be on the chopping block. Interestingly enough, the XT4, XT5, and XT6 are leaving the market before the CT4 and CT5 sedans. With the XT5 and XT6 officially headed out to pasture, the Escalade and two sedans are the only remaining gas-powered models on the brand’s lineup. It’s no surprise that the Escalade, Cadillac’s best-selling model, is sticking around. The two sedans are a different story, though, and I won’t be surprised to see either one or both models leaving the market within the next year or two.
