Mercedes-AMG Announces Limited-Production Special Edition GT 63 in Honor of Upcoming 'F1' Movie

The German automaker celebrates its upcoming movie tie-in

Expected to arrive in theatres near you this summer, F1 puts Brad Pitt in the driver’s seat of some of the world’s fastest and most advanced race cars. The film’s aim for authenticity sees the use of actual Formula 1 race tracks around the world, where scenes have been filmed with real cars and real drivers. Since Mercedes-AMG is an official partner of Apple Original Films and Warner Bros. Pictures, many of their exciting contemporary products are featured on-screen in the film, including an AMG SL, G-Class, GT, and the Mercedes-AMG Official FIA F1 Safety Car. To commemorate Mercedes-AMG’s immersive involvement with such a massively anticipated film, the performance brand has announced a special edition of its GT 63 super coupe, limited to just 52 units worldwide, named the “APXGP Edition.”

The special edition Mercedes-AMG GT 63 “closely mirrors the design from the film’s fictional APXGP Formula 1 team”

Above and beyond the standard GT 63’s handcrafted 577-horsepower twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8, 4MATIC+ fully variable all-wheel drive, AMG Active Ride Control, and active rear-axle steering, the APXGP Edition gets a few extra goodies. Firstly, its unique paint finish steals the show, pairing black satin with Race Gold accents which can be seen around the AMG-specific grille, on the front fenders alongside a checkered flag design pattern, on the side sills, and on the rear apron and diffuser blade. The GT 63’s 21-inch AMG Forged Cross-Spoke wheels feature the same Race Gold paint in matte finish, and its high-performance carbon ceramic brakes feature black painted calipers for contrast.

Even more Race Gold accents are found inside the GT 63 APXGP Edition’s luxurious cabin, which also features black Nappa leather/microfiber AMG Performance Seats with gold contrast stitching, carbon fiber trim elements with gold-colored threads, a heated AMG Performance steering wheel with black 12 o’clock markings and gold stitching, custom door sill trims with gold illumination, and AMG floor mats with the “APXGP” logo embroidered in Race Gold. The GT 63 APXGP Edition’s cabin also comes standard with the 1,170-watt, 15-speaker Burmester High-End 3D Surround Sound System. Each APXGP Edition owner will receive a “custom, edition-specific AMG Indoor Car Cover with a breathable outer skin made of tear-resistant synthetic fiber fabric and antistatic inner fabric made of flannel,” to protect their limited-run investment.

Final thoughts

Limited to just 52 units worldwide, the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 APXGP Edition will be rarer than rare. To put its exclusivity into perspective, consider that the Mercedes-Benz CLK DTM AMG Cabriolet had 80 units produced, and one of the rarest and most coveted AMGs ever built–the R129 Mercedes-Benz SL73 AMG–shared its gargantuan 7.3-liter V12 with the Pagani Zonda S and had about 85 units produced. This means you’ll be incredibly lucky if you manage to get your hands on a GT 63 APXGP Edition, but if you can somehow secure one, you’ve surely struck gold.
