Volvo’s EV offerings have been fairly scarce over the past few years, but 2025 marks a turning point for the Swedish automaker. Volvo is introducing two new electric vehicles fit for the whole family in the coming year, with the Volvo EX90 aiming to one-up the competition in the three-row electric SUV segment.

The 2025 Volvo EX90 makes up to 510 horsepower
The Volvo EX90 arrives in two trim levels with two powertrain options to choose from. Both powertrains come with an all-wheel drivetrain and 111 kWh battery good for up to 310 miles. When connected to a DC fast charger, the Volvo EX90 can charge from 10% to 80% in just 30 minutes.
The standard powertrain features dual electric motors that produce 402 horsepower and 568 lb-ft of torque. That kind of performance launches the Volvo EX90 to 60 mph in just 5.7 seconds.

Upgrading to the twin motor performance powertrain increases performance to 510 horsepower and 671 lb-ft of torque. According to Volvo, that kind of power puts the EX90 at the 60-mph mark in just 4.7 seconds but will cost you an additional $5,000.
The 2025 Volvo EX90 Plus trim starts at $79,995, while the Ultra model will cost you $84,345.

The Volvo EX90 seats up to seven passengers
With seating for up to seven passengers and up to 67.6 cu ft. of cargo space, the Volvo EX90 is one of the most spacious electric SUVs in the industry. Flat-folding rear seats create a flat load floor that makes loading and unloading larger items a breeze.

Volvo offers the option to remove the second row’s center seat to create a more spacious seating arrangement for six passengers, but for an additional $500, of course. Per Volvo, the third-row seats can accommodate two passengers comfortably as long as they aren’t taller than 5’7”.

The 2025 Volvo EX90 offers families the ability to stay connected on the road with plenty of connectivity options. A wireless smartphone charging pad comes standard, as do six USB-C ports, two to each row, and wireless Apple CarPlay. A 12V power outlet can be found in the cargo area for added utility.
There aren’t that many three-row electric SUVs on the market
With the introduction of its three-row electric SUV, Volvo enters a fairly scarce segment with only a handful of comparable models. While some EVs come with an optional third-row upgrade, only a few come with it as a standard feature.

The Kia EV9 offers spacious seating for up to seven adults, while the Mercedes-Benz EQS and EQB can also both be fitted with an optional third row.
As for American offerings, the Rivian R1S features seating for seven at a similar price point to the EX90. The Tesla Model Y can be configured to seat up to seven passengers, and the Model X comes with standard third-row seating.

Final thoughts
With the arrival of the Volvo EX90, the Swedish automaker enters a segment with few competitors. Not many electric SUVs offer standard seating for up to seven passengers or the kind of performance that Volvo has imbued into its newest electric SUV. In the United States, at least, the EX90 is shaping up to be a segment leader in the upscale market.
